This is a very rare opportunity to attend one of Simon Williams's moth, butterfly, beetles painting workshops. This is a workshop that has not been offered in the past 10 years. An ideal chance to attend if you would like to learn the principles of a traditional cut to white, scientific illustration using one of the titled topic choices. Learn how to produce an accurate drawing that often requires symmetry. Colour analysis of the subject matter to understand which colours are important to layer first. Particularly to capture the array of colour that can range from vibrant, matt, dark, glossy, iridescent. Naturally an iridescent cannot be reproduced but an illusion can be achieved. however, with modern paint pigments, iridescent medium and things like Gum Arabic fantastic results can be executed. Simon trained as a natural history illustrator so fear not, you will be in safe hands stepping out of your botanical studies. The course medium will be either watercolour or gouache. Demonstrations will be given in both. The course will not be suitable for beginners. If you have a good level and understanding of the fundamentals in botanical painting you should be able to attend this course.
